The Automotive Aftermarket: It’s Easy Being Green!

A Message from AAIA President and CEO Kathleen Schmatz, Founding Women’s Board Member

Attendees of the recent Women’s Board summer meeting in Nashville, Tenn. heard a presentation about the AAIA green initiative, created on behalf of the entire industry: “The Automotive Aftermarket’s Green Story: Driving Toward a Cleaner Environment.” The automotive aftermarket industry has, for decades, practiced sustainability and has been “green” long before being “green” was cool or mainstream. The problem is most people don’t realize it and we don’t get credit for our huge contributions to a cleaner environment.

After all, the core purpose of the businesses that make up the aftermarket is to provide the parts, products and services to keep America’s vehicles operating properly, efficiently, safely and cleanly. Overall these contribute to better gas mileage, less energy consumption and cleaner air. Well, this year we created our eco story: “The Automotive Aftermarket’s Green Story: Driving Toward a Cleaner Environment.” Visit www.aftermarket.org/green for all the details, including a short video about the aftermarket’s green efforts. We invite you to spread the word on this important environmental message.
